Friends

Well you find out who your friends are
When you’re getting’ kicked around
They’re the ones still up there scrappin’
When you’re out cold on the ground
They’re the ones who will drag you off
When it isn’t time to fight
And never let you
Out of their sight

There’s times they themselves should thump you
But they never seem perturbed
Even when it’s them
You’re cuttin’ up with words
They’re the ones who tolerate you
And can dismiss you with a shrug
And then turn around
And crush you with a hug

Now I’ve been known to travel
With a rough and tumble lot
But they will give most freely
Of everything they’ve got
They have lost all their illusions
But have clung tight to their delusions
And would give their dyin’ drop
For your transfusion

Now then the way I see it
I’m a very lucky man
Though I count my compadres
On just one hand
Well you find out who your friends are
When you’re getting’ kicked around
They’re the ones still up there rumblin’
When you’re out cold on the ground

Ahh, duke.. there isn't a doubt in my mind that this is straight out of your heart and absolutely true, from wall to wall! I especially love the 3rd stanza/verse.. that last line brought the weepies.. god, that's it, isn't it? How clever you are to point out that these special people are less than a handful.. but that's all we need. Just wonderful! katy xox.
