When Love Comes Around

I found my love and lost her

During a short moment in time.

For a short while we were together,

            And she was totally mine.

We faced the mighty mountains,

            The ones in our minds.

But we found there were just too many

            We couldn’t climb.

I held her hand for a while,

And we both discovered we could laugh again.

We shared our lives and secrets,

            As friend to friend.

We met one hot summer night,

            In a crowded, smoke-filled room.

And we said good-bye on a cold winter day

            That came way too soon.

I found another love and lost her

During a brief moment in time.

For a while we were together,

But she was never really mine.

We faced other mountains,

Not all of them in our mind.

And once again, there were just too many

            That we couldn’t climb.

I held her close for a while

            And life returned again.

I wanted a lover, a wife,

But most of all I wanted a friend.

We met by accident,

            One summer afternoon.

But even from the beginning,

            This love was doomed.

Two years and a thousand miles later

            She said good-bye.

I watched her go

            And couldn’t even cry.

I wandered for a while,

            Aimlessly,

            Holding my feelings inside.

For a while I thought

My ability to love had died.

Here and there I wandered,

            And so many places inbetween.

Then one day

I looked deep into my mind

And found a place I had never seen.

They say you can’t go home again,

But I know that’s just not so.

Home is in your heart,

            No matter where you go.

Someone once said,

“To yourself, be thine true .”

Listen to your heart,

It knows what is best for you.

Every day when I wake up,

And find her next to me,

I thank God for this second chance

            He has given me.

In the cold, quiet hours of winter

            When we’re alone

We sit by the fire

            In our loving home.

In all your life

You’re given only one true love and friend.

I lost mine,

But by the grace of God

            I found her again.

That was just beautiful and I can relate with my present husband! He is truly my soul mate and I've "kissed a lot of frogs" to finally find him! I can sense the feelings you put into these words and share the joy from finding true love again. BRAVO!

Sometimes we have to lose what we have to appreciate having had it in the first place :)! Beautiful poem.
