Lord, I'm only eight years old
And I don't know how to pray
But there's just a few things that
I really have to say
My Daddy left us long ago
But I don't miss him much
He never cared about me
We never even touched

Mommy went out again last night
She does that alot, you see
She says she has to get away
She can't be bothered with me
Why don't Mommy love me, Lord
All the other children say
They get lots of hugs and kisses
Every single day

Why don't Mommy love me
What did I do wrong
Why won't Mommy play with me
Oh, it's been so long
I tried to fix cereal
But spilled milk on the floor
Mommy screamed and hit me
Like a hundred times before!

Why don't Mommy love me
Is there anything I can do
If she would gently hug me
Or simply say I Love You
It's getting dark again, Lord
Won't you please stay with me
The night bears into my soul
The silence so lonely

Would you talk to Mommy, Lord
My body's tired and sore
Tell her not to hit me
I just can't take it anymore
Someone has to help me
How long can I hold on
To a Mommy who don't love me
And never stays at home

The shadows are coming closer Lord
It's a long time 'till the day
Stay here and hold my hand
PLEASE don't go away!

If you suspect child abuse...PLEASE
report it. You could save a child's
life. We must stand up for our children...they can't take up for themselves.

Linda: This poem brings tears to my eyes. Words so beautifully written for such horrible suffering in a child's life.

Great read Linda! Unfortunately with the society we live in today, things like this go unnoticed and unreported much too often. It really makes one stop and think. Good job...

Very moving. I know just how this little girl feels, or little boy. It didn't say. But my mom stayed home all the time. God Bless the children. Excellent. Liz

This has been written a while ago, I have just found your sight and your poetry is absolutly beautiful. I may not stop crying for awhile, this is wonderful. Why people think it isn't their right to interfere when they know of child abuse, stuns me.
Thank you, Rose

Hi Linda:

I remember this sad little one. My heart ached when I read it the first time, and it still does this time around.
