On The Edge of Tomorrow

This poem is about someone who is frustrated and has lost all hope. It is based on a personal experience in which reason no longer was an option and the only thing left for this person to do was to believe in another and believe in himself and his ability to make a positive impact on the world.

On The Edge of Tomorrow

I stood on the edge of tomorrow
Looking down
I could not see the bottom
Looking across
I could not see the beginning
I could see nothing but empty space

Behind me were roads I had taken before
None of them were good
None of them satisfied my needs

It had taken all of my strength to get me here
All my effort to leave the past behind
Everything I had to climb to the edge

Down to my last breath, I shouted out
In a voice loud enough to shake heaven

The echoes faded
And there was nothing but silence
I knelt to the ground
My eyes could no longer see
My ears could no longer hear
Fading, all around me was nothing but darkness

Then I heard a reply:
"Exist to Inspire! Make a difference!"

The wind took my arms
And raised me to my feet
A fire came forth from my heart
And I could see and hear like never before
I felt something inside
and there was love
Suddenly I was strong
Stronger than I’d ever been

Before me, the edge was still there
Still unclear
But I was no longer afraid as I leapt
With all my heart and with all my desire
I flung myself into the unknown

I did not fall
I flew

Wow Louis,
A story of hope rising from the ashes...(Cant go back, no strength to go forward)You know the whole scenario and especially the imagery in the last two stanzas was sooo much like one I wrote a couple of weeks back called "Spirit Wind" - take a read if you get time. This is such a 'feel the fear and do it anyway' kind of poem. Good stuff!!
