Dark Angel

Standing in the shadows,
I feign indifference,
For those weak shallow creatures,
Crawling on the earth,
Extracting her blood,
A sacrilege performed in madness,
They do not heed the warnings,
Sent by the seraph of their God,
I wonder then,
If they will heed his warning,
When the fruit lies withered on the vine,
And they call his name
With wet lips,
Seeking to invoke his compassion,
With their irreverent bleating…

Like a marauder I shall come then,
Smuggle the good children,
Take them to the God
They fear so much,
And fear they should,
For his anger shall simmer awhile yet,
Hating the blasphemy done in his name,
They mutilate the truth,
Extracting what they need,
But they cannot hide from me,
Nor stand before God,
As belligerent children,
He is as yielding,
As the sky,
I shall watch them die,
As their cries of woe and sorrow,
Plays in the air like static,
And the dark angel shall laugh
With much glee,
What a glorious celebration
That night will be!

Rein--you outdone yourself here. Superbly written poetry that tells the truth about revelation. What may seem right at the beginning may feel very wrong at the end and you won't find out until you are pushed down South where no one wants to go. A winning masterpiece to say the least. Great work my friend. LC

You had me at the first line, Reindeer, this is BRILLIANT and that's no lie! This is full of SO many great lines, and fantastic images! I love this couplet:
"A sacrilege performed in madness,
They do not heed the warnings, "
So mythic and so haunting...! You're usually a wonderful writer, but this is EXCEPTIONAL! (By the way, love that picture to pieces!)
