If I could turn back time
If I only had the power
There wouldn't have been a Nine One One
With uncertain, terror filled hours

If I could turn back time
If there were a possible way
Those four planes would not have been hijacked
On that terrible September day

If I could turn back time
To before that awful event
The Trade Towers would be standing tall
Never to fall, and never absent

If I could turn back time
The Pentagon wouldn't have burned
Flight Ninety Three wouldn't have gone down
The dust cloud wouldn't have boiled and churned

If I could turn back time
I'd make sure you were safe, outside
I'd made sure you were out of harm's way I wonder how you died

If I could turn back time
I wouldn't haved watched the t.v.
Repeated, 'til it burned on my brain
And in nightmares, the horror I see

If I could turn back time
If I could talk to you again
I'd say everything I meant to say
Scribe your words, right on my heart, in pen

If I could turn back time
If I could have one last moment
I'd beg that it would last forever
That way, it would never, ever end

If I could turn back time
You would be here, right beside me
Instead, I mourn, say "good bye" again
And relive the painful memories

If I could turn back time
Seems like no one else remembers
As long as I live, I won't forget
I write of that day in September.

Oh, Karla...the ache is so powerful in your piece. I still wonder, at times, how we are able to go on when the knowledge of what's been done to all humanity throbs and burns and never leaves. Even now, the sound of an airplane can bring that instant of impact crashing into my head... You are doing wonderfully with your 9/11 poems, keep up the needed reminders. ((((hugs))))

Powerful, hardhitting write; thanks for sharing and reminding us the significance of WHY we should "always remember and NEVER forget"!

God bless America again, and may America (or the WORLD) NEVER experience another cataclysmic event like September 11, 2001 EVER again!

God be with the family of Joyce Ann Carpeneto and ALL those who were affected so dramatically on that day!

((((HUGS)))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :( >tears, tears, tears <
