The Very Last Minute

So many thoughts come to us when we think of 9/11 - as evidenced by much of the material being posted in the last several days. This is my contribution in these "very last minutes" before the anniversary of 9/11........

Writing a report for the boss

Phoning home to apologize for the fight

Feeling nervous on first day at work

Calling the doctor for the lab report

Talking to the boss about a raise

Watching a pretty girl pass a desk

Straightening a tie in the bathroom mirror

Gazing out the window at the blue sky

Filing folders in the cabinet

Typing a letter to the company president

Flirting with the cutest guy in the office

Deciding where to go for lunch later

Feeling the baby kick for the first time

Talking to a friend about having an affair

Worrying about Mom in the nursing home

Calling the travel agent about vacation plans

Talking to a financial counselor about bills

Thinking about the kids’ new teacher

Taking an aspirin for a hangover

Straightening the desk before the boss arrives

Composing a resignation to take that new job

Gazing at the flowers sent for a birthday surprise

Every day occurrences in the twin towers….
Unremarkable in and of themselves, yet
Being performed for the last time……ever…….

I probably won't get to read all the tributes at AD for the tragedy of 9-11 but it matters not. This is the very best. Why? Because it puts such a personal, very intimate face of those who died that day. Thank you for writing this, Pam and you know this is not BS.
