New and Bigger Sins

The bigger stick wins

Awaking Sunday
almost at noon
ohhh so late!

cars outside already up
making noise
and a dog
and a kid calling

what?
…is this guilt ?
slinking, creeping
angling for my brain?

Off with you!

Sleeping late on Sunday
is no sin
despite what church folk
may believe.
Besides,
there are new sins in the world
far more vile
abominable
and foul
than sleeping late.
Sins which are opposed and
annihilated by larger sins
the winner being the one
with the bigger sin machine

-- no room for integrity
respect
or reason…
just like in business
and war.
The ape with the big stick
vanquishes the ape
with the small stick

as for me
…into to the shower
and contemplate
which sin shall it be today?

Wow. I love this laid back tongue-in-cheek lesson in the triage of morality issues.

... sin lives in the mind of the beholder, so best we be beholdin' to no one. nice poem, but i can think of lots of sinful things one could add to laying late in bed on sunday. :)
