I knew surgery was eminent
It had to be done
Was a must
No doubt about it
Plans carefully made
I dreamed
Of all the inspiration
Coming my way
While convalescing along
Thses hot Fall days
I was wrong
The block I ran into
Was much too strong
Pain had a face
As I tried to walk
It even had a tatse
As my feet lower
In an attempt to stand
An over powering tatse
Of rust
Invaded my taste buds
thought dormant
The Face Of Pain
Was there too
A sterile white, popcorned ceiling
As my anesthesia wore
I became alive
In pain beyond description
I beggede to die
The cold blooded, sterile ceiling
Spins in an unfocused
Vision
It's been ten days
Since my surgery
Inspiration had been deleted
From my thoughts.

**Foot Note

The operation seemd a success
So far, so good, thank God
I am the proud owner
Of four brand new
Stainless steel, 2 1/2 inch screws

I'm so glad you can write about it William. You really express how deeply pain invades us. Having been in hospial 56 times, I know pain;-)and I don't like it, but I live with it daily!I hope your recovery is swift and sure. We miss you here! You're in my prayers!

I've spent a great deal of time in hospital, William and even the agony of it can be inspiring( easy for me to say now, lol ) You have written this poem from your heart and it speaks to many.
I hope you continue to make a good recovery and grace the den with more of your wonderful poetry soon.
