For The Love Of Pie
I don't care much for cookies and cake.
Though to my taste ice cream rates quite high.
But I love the smile a clown will make
When he's hit in the face with a pie.
There's a reason for the clown to smile,
Which exceeds all the paint on his face.
There's a thing about pie that's more worthwhile
Then its lucious and sweetly tart taste.
Clown are icons of all the things kid's enjoy.
They are symbols ,which children hold dear,
Of fun and laughter and playing with toys
And perhaps an occasional tear.
And grandmother's pie has a value
Most American folks will esteem
With things like baseball and red, white and blue,
Things supporting America's dream.
Nothing I find can ever replace
(And believe me I look and I try)
A clown's smile when he takes a hit in the face
With grandma's American pie.
