night blues

Down the street the night blues come:
capering around garbage cans and cars,
circling lamp posts; vaulting fire hydrants.

In the light pools the night blues romp
whirling and dancing in the dampness
jiving in the harsh illumination.

Encountering the crowds the night blues enter
making human hearts that have turned to stone
calling forth dancers and singers and poets.

But those who do not, can not resonate
are left empty without remorse. The night
blues will not stay where they are not received

The night blues caper, twirl and run along
To jive and to dance and make human
to inspire others to poetry and to song
