Flight and Goodnight
----------------------------
Fleeing the ugliness
Of the world today,
I run and run,
And never look back,
But feel it chasing me,
Like the scary man,
You mother warned you about…

Reaching the end of my path,
I teeter on the edge of tomorrow-
Wanting to taste sweet victory,
Wanting to fly into the unknown…

Little faces haunting me,
Warning me not to leave them behind…
Echoes of sadness so deep inside,
Why does he make me
Want to hide…

I thought love was kind,
I thought love was good,
Then why do I feel so bad
All the time?

My knife cuts into my hand,
And I feel its keen edge
Like a bite of reality…

Love is a piñata`
With all the players
Taking turns swinging the bat…
Eager for the sweet treats
Inside that their soul loves to eat…

Suddenly it shatters,
And the sweet candy falls to the ground,
And the greedy ones so eager
To fill their hearts
Scatter like wild fools,
Grabbing anything they can…

I watch and wonder if they know
What it is they are putting there,
See the things they left lying on the ground,
Dull wrappers with odd names…
Truth, fealty, loyalty,
Honesty, devotion, hope…

I wonder what they took with them,
If they left these all behind…

I feel the wetness on my hands,
Now crimson with blood,
And laugh and walk away,
Leaving the treasures of love
For another day…

That was...amazing. It is often a sad and frightful world...too full of people and their emotional greed. This described them and their actions all too well. I hope that much better things will come your your way in the future...for with every night there has to be one more morning. All good things to you.

Retta, this is outstanding. The image of greedy one grabbing what they can yet leaving behind the important ones like truth, loyalty, honesty was magnificent and so true of todays shallow "my needs are all that's important" attitude toward real love.

Well done, Retta.
