Renewal of Rain   (Haiku)

At the birth of day
Thunder rumbles in the sky
As the clouds gather

The heavens open
From dark moisture laden clouds
Rain begins to fall

The smell of wet soil
Fills the air with scent of life
And of renewal

The steady downpour
 Has the soaking trees whisper
A sigh of relief

Near the end of day
An arc of color appears
The storm is over

As darkness deepens
The stars in the sky witness
Rebirth of the land

I am a sensitive, I smell rain before it arrives...
I smell Autumn in the air before it is here...
I smell water nourish a blade of grass and swell up
the smell of the earth below...

This poem has stimulated all of my senses Regis,
Thank you for sharing it with me...

I love the way these are linked, progressing throughout the day. You make me anxious for rainy days rather than all these snowy ones, Regis. Love these!

One of the things I love about the haiku/senryu/tanka forms is their layered meanings...and how, when done correctly, they form unique snapshots of a moment...you have more than done it correctly here...this piece is so well done that any one piece can be read alone, but the true essence is reading them together.
