...magnification of desires, without regard to the rights of others.....The Corruption of Atlantis

The ancient city slumbered, beneath the water's depth
While generations wondered, and ships were launched in quest
A mystery to be...explained...this mystery of old
Legend exciting and arcane, for scholars to unfold

Power of the mind, beyond the mortal man
Built cities, of magnificence, upon this island grand
Utopia of ancient times, enlightened to the heights
The zenith of society, they ruled without foresight

Descendants of Posidon, tho mortal, men of flesh
Noble minds, yet inhumane, surprised by fates unblessed
Arrogant, and stoic, they felt the future theirs
A theory or a fable, the ruins at rest somewhere

Searching for the artifacts of Plato's story strange
Attempting to delude ourselves, with legends rearranged
To penetrate this mystery, reposed in death's digest
At slumber in a deep blue sea..... contrite...and now at rest

I wrote this a few years ago when Disney put out their Atlantis cartoon, I kept seeing the commercials on TV for it, and I remembered my mother being absorbed by the legand of Atlantis, she believes in it, and would tell me stories about the times there (she claims we both lived there, she is big into reincarnation) Who knows???

Hi Lady A
Your mother left you a marvelous gift in the stories that left
you stores to express this archetypical mystery woven into the tapestry of so many of our ancestors--but largely unknown. Your second stanza captured my attention. While as yet, I most believe the Truth of Atlantis to be a composite--the suppositions of the second stanza speak to possibilities perhaps manifest in a modern
archetectual mystery called the Coral Castle. A single man mastermind and manifest the entire huge estate--he will say only that the source of his accomplishment is hidden in his private dicovery of how the great pyramids were built. Vicky

Hi Anita,

Great poem, love the rhyme and the flow. I have always loved speculating about the unknown. I guess that is because I can envision it anyway I want.
