I never liked the dark woods, even with a flashlight, fear still drives me into the light, even in my old age now...

Halloween…a fearful night

Of goblins, ghouls and ghosts, we fear

Their night to scare is almost here,

A demon fiend comes to frighten,

On this night, the child inside us of ten,

The woods of night bring forth a fearsome fright,

For me, even in my half century of life,

Darkness still keeps me in the light,

Not withstanding, even the brightness of a flashlight,

Does little to strengthen my mind against this gruesome blight.

I don't mind the dark. I sleep with all the lights off, but being in the woods alone is a fright. Enjoyed immensely.

What a gorgeous picture, Ed! When I was growing up, and I would come home down the sidewalk in the dark, there was a long row of bushes inhabited by...nightcrawlers. The vibration from footsteps drove them in their holes, creating a scalp-tingling scrapey/rustly noise I always hated. This piece feels like that noise, a realization of harmless intent, yet, not a fun time! :)
