The Storm

The chill wind came,
the rain, the grey of heavy clouds, dulling the brightness that was day,
cooling the air,
numbing bodies used to warmer climes.

The lightning zipped,
the thunder crashed, anger in heaven being heard on earth,
the wind howled,
trees danced in a wild frenzy.

The rain fell,
big drops, cascading down in a wind-lashed torrent,
pelting the earth,
fluid strength beating down.

Nature's wrath to show her people,
once again, her strength and power:
Show the fragility of all beneath her,
glorious essence of her hour.

Abatement.
Silence.
Blue sky, golden rays shining earthward,
Birds begin their song in the after-storm peace.
