The Man of Big Shoulders

A tribute to columnist and Chicago institution, Irv Kupcinet, who died recently at age 91.

Even now in Chicago we all fondly recall
the man who ate wedding cake with Bogie and Bacall
A Jew who was once thought in Rome to be Pope
and was later honored in town by Bob Hope
Who announced football games for da Bears
and who used to play and ref for years
A man you would not dream was a star
though he once replaced one named Jack Paar
He who had Carl Sandburg as his featured guest
and whose column was often considered the best

Yes, Irv Kupcinet has seen his last day
but his spirit will never fade away
Not from a city Kup could never leave
Not from Chicago where still we all grieve...

The Final Phase

Your tribute to an obviously unique man was rather interesting to read ..I must say that if one has so much respect and love for another and thus writes a tribute..the writer himself must also be a very unique and most intriguing person.
Thankyou for this wondrous write..
Blessings....
