My sister-in-law died this morning, surrounded by her family, and my brother, who loved her as his soul mate. Grieve for these brave people who suffer through their bodies self-destruction, and celebrate their lives, she fought to the end.

Sheís gone, the awful dread,
spreads, our sorrowed need,
the vacuum bleeds
its emptiness into Timeís decree.

Itís done, a thread
denied, cancer
claims its dearth, demise
is such an ugly word.

Heís gone, into his head,
treads, the memories
of life before deathís strife
became the norm.

Itís done, her silvered red,
bestows, the grace she spread,
her husband, my brotherís fate,
was loved by her, we await

the slate of unearthed freedomís weight
to gather once again and celebrate; life.

She died as I was celebrating life in the form of a rainy day...

Companion piece:

Whither-way,
a lovely life,
whither-gone,
my brother's wife,
whither-will
your song be strong,
whither-'til
we meet again.

Erin, thank you for this poignant tribute to our sister-in-law, and to Jeff and Fran's love for each other. You've captured her grace and his pain, and somehow that brings comfort and peace.

I wish I was strong enough to read this at her service.. Shan

whither-why
a family's pain
whither-writes
the poet's pen
whither-will
the tribute last
whither-'til
they reunite.

The original piece, She's Gone, is a well written piece, but to be honest, Erin, the companion piece, is the one I have to go with, it is beautiful and should be attached to your sister in laws coffin...I would be willing to bet she would rather have such beauty near her...my most sincerest condolances to you and your brother and family at this time...and remember, this too shall pass, Find Peace, Ed & Rufuz

My sympathy with you and yours. This is a moving piece very appropriate to the tragic event that you share with us. Love, peace and strength, Regis.

Oh Erin!

Now I understand the strength of feeling behind the other poem.

My thoughts are with you and yours at this sad, sad time.

This was so moving--->

Whither-way,
a lovely life,
whither-gone,
my brother's wife,
whither-will
your song be strong,
whither-'til
we meet again.

One of the most touching poems I've ever read.

Take care......All my love, Dani

and this is so beautiful, so meant, straight from the heart and an arrow to ours, it holds a special beauty, somehow, I believe it is your words...and the heart opening up for/about her, your brother and about all who lose to this diesease ...or any, my friend...a tribute and mostly and honest, just beautifully done, special, haunting, heart rent poem...
I... your comment, perhaps, I yes....there will be a time when there will be celebration again...even in the rain, of the rain, dear Erin,

Oh, my dearest.. and I have just come from celebrating that rain with you.. only to find this, fresh, new, as the open wound you write of here.. How well I know your grief.. how helpless I am to dent that initial numbness that refuses to look at the reality of it all... words are what I have.. I give these to you: I'm so sorry. love, katy xox.
