We watch the birds fly in an infinite space
way far above our faltering heads
While watching them soar to miraculous heights
we look for the freedom to be ours instead

We huddle for comfort in the cold morning air
and we see them, somewhat, just like ourselves
They desire the closeness of each other's body
though they never question the lacking of bread

While we dream of beauty and wallow in pity
they gather their food when they see the wind
They sing us their songs though we never listen
It's negative thoughts that get stuck in our heads

When thinking of lovers who have done you wrong
you should try to forget that your heart is ailing
Let go of your problems and give them to God
He gave you the birds and made sure they were fed

Someday you will soar like the birds in the sky
If you just take its wings and you give love a chance
The birds are your comfort when you have no hope
They will glisten with answers as though they are led
