They're not beautiful,
or even completely circular.
Their shapes are imperfect
as they hang,
suspended from my bedroom ceiling
by wires,
tacks,
and ties.
Eighteen of them now,
colors muted,
each a silent witness
In the darkness.
Each a shadow.
They snare nightmares,
and let them go;
bad dreams drifting down to me
in sleep.
I keep them still,
even though they hurt me.
I could never let them go.
