Science is poetry and poetry science…
I whisper these words in irreverent silence,
As I write these lines with some scientific help
Fingering the keyboard with barely disguised yelp.
Like poetry, science is reaching for the stars,
Right now it is exploring the Red Planet Mars.
Man walked on the moon and the wonders never cease,
Research found ways to cure many killer disease.
Science is glorious when Man is justly served,
The praise science receives then is truly deserved.
But there is a cautionary sting in the tail,
When science over good and common sense prevail.
Science taking over, the progress is so fast,
We all seem to be lost; we’re standing aghast.
Have a kidney diseased? Treatment is not a start.
Why bother when it’s easy to get a spare part?
To switch on video one has to be expert,
One almost needs a PhD washing a shirt.
Even to arrange a date one needs to be smart,
Computers compute now the affairs of the heart.
Science will tell you what is good for you to eat,
Science can also figure the best way to cheat.
There is no God any more, there is just Science;
These words echo around in utter defiance.
Love no longer exists, there are just goods to buy,
Wherever one turns there is a “law” to apply.
But is the π really just a pie in the sky?
Do we need to know every quark? Please tell me why?
Does E=mc˛? Should we jump with joy?
How about the simple life? Should we not enjoy?
Don’t get me wrong; I think science is really great,
Many grave problems it can ameliorate,
But with the help of science the world goes so well,
We can travel through space just to end up in hell.
If science to serve Man, not end us in hell-hole,
It must first search for and find its very own soul.
