Money was tight

Luxuries few

Just getting by

Was all I knew

But I was happy

Late nights working

Some weekends too

Never got bored

With nothing to do

But I was happy

Success brought money

Money brought things

Things got complicated

Things got strange

Happiness waned

From humble to vain

Now managing gains

All energy drained

Life turned insane

I miss happy

How about you?

I found that the more "things" I got, the less joyful and spontaneous life became and I ended up having to make radical changes! I really related to your poem.....very well said!

Michael, so true! Been there, done that. Took my life back, happily.
I like how you said this.
PS I think you mean vain, not vane. ;)
