I admired you
from afar
your class, your style
you made me laugh
you made me cry
because I couldn’t hold you
You’d pulled away
distanced yourself
even when we became
close enough to touch
You couldn’t be my lover
not even for a night
I can still feel
the moonlight on my face
smell the flowers
in your hair
hear the breeze
whispering in your breath

I admired you
from afar
not realizing you needed more
you needed love
not a lovers tryst
but someone to hold your hand
rock you through the night
hold you close
to feel your heart
it beat so fast
It frightened me
that your love
could be for an eternity
how I could break your heart

I admired you
from afar
your beauty, your grace
you made me cry
you made me run away
I was afraid
you couldn’t love me back
I didn’t know how much love
you could give

I lost you to the moon & stars
I admired you
from afar

Hi Dale,
I like this a lot! Especially this:
"I admired you
from afar
not realizing you needed more
you needed love
not a lovers tryst"
That whole stanza speaks volumes!

Hugs,
Maria

So bittersweet in it's yearning to have it otherwise, how beautifully you depict the times we miscalculate...fine work Dale!
