I stopped on the side of the road tonight, man I really had to go, but I seemed to have picked a spot that a mother racoon had picked out for herself and her brood...sorry mom, but...

Feral & Rabid…

Feral & rabid am I…

When I stare at you with my one eye,

You better stay away from my,

       den & little ones.

I may hiss & scratch at the sky,

Just protecting my little guys,

Don’t you think I won’t attack?

See the hackles on my back,

Stand up straight & shake,

That is you warning to back away.

In the morning,

Or late at night,

I stand up for what is right,

If you’re bitten, you can bet,

Lots of shots in your tummy,

From your doctor, you’ll get.

“Are you scared?” I hiss,

Ready to, on yourself, piss?

As I am a mother, like any other,

Protecting my young,

So lick your lips with your tongue,

And slowly back away,

If you do, safely you will go home, today…

(((o, ed)))

you gotta watch them wild animals...you never know if they're rabid

ask my aunt barbara--she was feeding some raccoons, she'd been trying to get them eating out of her hand for months...well, one bit her in the finger, and you guessed it--14 shots in the tummy for rabies *thank God she lived*

you can bet she never tried that again

painful but necessary lesson in this well written poem

me, i woulda pissed all over myself :) then sllooowwwwwwwly backed on outta there, turned around, and then run like thunder :)

(((HUGS))) and love,

karla.

good thing you and rufuz *WOOF* are okay--you did get home safely, didn't you????
