HIstory is full of stories about our founding fathers. I was reading about George Washington at Valley Forge. There was a picture of him on his knees in prayer and this poem was born.
Because Of A Prayer
By Don Tyson
Surrounded and out numbered
His small army camped
Awaiting the word
To retreat or advance
The General met with his staff
And listened intently as
They had their say
He quietly withdrew and
Then knelt to pray
Oh, God in heaven
You rule the day
Help me bear this burden
Show me your way
His army was tired
And too weak to fight
So he gathered his forces and
Withdrew in the night
They had to survive
To continue the fight
Because of a dream
Of what we could be
A land where men
would live and be free
Because that General
Wasn't too proud to pray
America became what it is today
And our banner still waves
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave
