It may sound corny, a wee kernel weird, but
… I’m all ears.
Sounds, soft and silky, are like corn meal, mush,
they can’t shuck the husk.
Ma said, “Listen!” Strained.
Deaf ears can’t be trained,
sounds stop at husk, slushy like mush.
I ‘hear’ with my eyes and by touch
… surprise!
‘See’ what you say, DO look my way.
Deaf ears can’t be trained,
sounds stop at husk, slushy like mush.
Some ask, “Can you speak?”
I tease … my horn squeaks.
My hearing’s range is your lips
… strange.
‘See’ what you say, DO look my way.
Deaf ears can’t be trained,
sounds stop at husk, slushy like mush.
Labeled ‘disabled’
I’m bright and enabled
to stretch your leg, cut it a peg.
My hearing’s range is your lips
… strange.
‘See’ what you say, Do look my way.
Deaf ears can’t be trained,
sounds stop at husk, slushy like mush.
Folks yelling loud at me
makes me wince … quite sadly.
Come close a spell, HATE when folks yell.
I’ll stretch your leg, cut it a peg.
My hearing’s range is your lips
… strange.
‘See’ what you say, DO look my way.
Deaf ears can’t be trained, sounds stop at husk,
slushy like mush.

It may sound corny, a wee kernel weird, but
… I’m
… all
. . . ears.

So full of depth of meaning, so full of good humor, your poem communicates so well.

being hard of hearing IS the pits; so much frustration when you can't hear what others say! or you ask them to repeat! i know how it is; i am hard of hearing myself; have been since i can remember! (((HUGS))) and much love, your (hard-of-hearing) friend in tx., karen lynn. :(
