"I'm alright, I'm alright
it only hurts when I breathe"
Melissa Etheridge

she was in my head at 4 am
singing that chorus I heard last week
she's one of my favorite
female artists

ya, Melissa we're feeling alright, alright

I've seen her play so many times
from intimate venues to immense arenas
her performance always strong
no matter what had sparked her song

of course her audience is mostly female
but often I'd see a few brave males
because they looked beyond her muse
and came because they loved the music

because she can, get inside and make you feel
she writes from the heart, she blasts it out
or soft lullabies what ever she's feeling
through her voice, her guitar, and her lyrics

I had no need to rush on stage
no need to hug or shake her hand
didn't want her autograph
I just came to feel her songs

her personal life is not my concern
who she loves or bears children from
as long as she keeps writing songs
I will love them forever

I take them with me,  to share in soul
repeat the ones, I want to know
she's a woman that gets back up
for me, she'll never fall from grace

ya, Melissa we're feeling alright, alright

oh, Melissa how you get in my soul
the way you sing, the way you play
sometimes we wallow in agony
sometimes we just drift away

you keep on writing, and I'll keep listening
I know you don't mind if I sing along
cause "I'm the only one
that would walk across a fire for you"

and we are all right, all write
