My sandals are dusty;
Their straps are worn thin.
Life is a journey;
That seems without end.
Sandals laid on the shelf;
I, a babe in the belly.
Too large, ignored, in the closet;
my legs spread like jelly.
'Til we ran in the sand!

My sandals are dusty;
They've been washed by tears.
Long, faithful companions--
I've worn them for years.
They languished on the shelf
when I fancied slippers
And peered from my closet
while gowns were zippered.
Yet they stood at hand!

When sunshine laid down
And dark clouds passed over
I laid in the dust
Adorned with clover
My sandals sprawled on the shelf;
worms crawled in my belly
They huddled in darkness;
my life spread like jelly

Now we explore new beaches, sand
with my e'er ready sandals in hand.
