Faded date on the back of a photo of two girls lost at Auschwitz.

Lost Words

Sometimes the words are lost,
When from a dream we awake.

Sometimes the words fade the pages,
In the bottom of the lake.

Sometimes the words burn brightly,
As the pages curl and flake.

Sometimes the words, old and musty,
The garbage man will take.

Sometimes the hard drive crashes,
Electronic characters turn to fake.

Sometimes the critic dashes,
Words to shreds we cast our stake.

Somewhere writers toil,
The words again to remake.

You covered near the gamut of lost words in this excellent piece, Ron. There are so many words out there, not all of equal weight. It's such a shame when the heavier ones disappear. And then there are those we wish would disappear. This poem is laden with the heavier ones which we hope are never lost.
Best regards,
Leland

I understand the part about the hard drive crashing--that happened to me today while I was editing an article and I had to reboot and start all over again. I think it was a good thing it crashed, because I liked what I wrote better the second time. I really enjoyed this, and I'm not at a loss for words either!

Excellent write Ronald! We never know when, what we write will have an effect on someone. That is the most intriguing thing about putting our words down on paper(or puter). There is no time limit!
