You are a kitten, innocent,
enjoying your limber body,
at “The Corrals,” where
animals are.

You are a kitten, feeling ill,
confused by your recumbent body,
at the corral, where our
animals live.

You were a kitten, but you are dead,
baited, your body lies stiff and cold,
at the corrals, where
animals die.

The Corrals are a piece of property about a mile from the townsite.
Phelps Dodge Mining Co. has run water and electricity out there, the ‘renters’ pay for the utilities and make their own ‘corral’ for their animals with what they have. It is a mishmash of ingenuity. Most people are decent. There are a few who poison others animals, out of callous disregard for respect of life. My husband and my girls’ ‘corral kitten’ was poisoned, and died, several days ago.

(((erin)))

to poison animals, to kill pets...sickens me. this stark, realistic poem brings it home painfully.

i'm sorry for your friend's loss...to lose a beloved pet is losing a member of the family

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. *tears*
