Awareness is Oceanic Self

Heart and mind and body and soul

Are, combined, the universe

Of awareness.

Awareness, evidentially, is like

An ocean

Of unplumbed depths,

Uncharted terrain

Unmapped shores

Ever changing, dissolving, evolving.

Never stagnant

Ever active

Even when quiet

A breath of death.

Nor does it perceive authority.

It merely is

And becomes

And heaves

And sighs

And leaps.

It sobs against indifferent rocks

Rages beneath darkened, lowering skies

Glistens mirrors of itself

Against the sun.

It floats the light of stars

Upon its bosom,

Nurtures the flesh

Of its own fertility

In primordial amniotic womb

And simultaneous tomb.

Yields to the superfluity

Of whatever overpowers

Its own terms.

It frolics in shoals of austere shores,

Is heavy, overburdened

With its own entrapped mass

In caverns of futile, pulsing

Fluidly swamping

The great deaf weight of itself.

In the bottoms of ultimacy,

Washing every atom of itself -

In the self-manufactured plasma of change

In the flow of and in and through itself

In its own totality.

It is warm and hot and cool and cold

And here and there

At once.

It swims in itself -

Erratically, ecstatically

In golden light.

In silver crest

In translucent wave

Upon wave

In thick, morbid mass

In sparkling ever essence

In pink blue

And aquamarine hue.

It is all and everything

And nothing definable,

Merely is and becomes

Evolves and evaporates

To glance the stars

To waft through

Eternal sameness

And otherness -

It is music of being and becoming

And the dirge of its decay

Of its own renewal

Doomed to continue rebirth

Of the imperative of revitalizing death.

Its sight is the universe

Of beauty in movement and caress

Of all it glides

Through,

In,

Beneath

Over

Among.

Its sound is the pulse

Of infinite molecular sensitivity

And fluid essence

Of every particular

Of ever microcosm

Within the microcosm

Of total intuitive acknowledgment.

It is the savor

Of all biology and psychic phenomena

That swim its currents of saline flavor

In mounds

Of billowing, wallowing heaves

Cresting in waves of effervescent,

Of rampant random circumstance.

All of itself swells

And swamps

And swills

And sieves

And sweeps satin sand bottoms -

Sobs against shoulders of obstruction

Celebrates in bubbly foam -

Throws tantrums of frustration

Against promontories of restraint -

And cliffs of recalcitrant lenience

Of dominion

Along shores of discovery.

Ever restless

Ever reaching

Ever fluid

Ever groundless

It is mother of species

Spawned of itself -

Launched in

And upon itself

To acknowledge

To play

Its mimic role,

To weave biological remnant

Unto generations of reflect self.

Downtime

To utter dissemination

And then to vaporize

And mingle

With other essence -

To begin anew the pattern

Of defiant obedience

To unobliged authority.

Awareness is oceanic self.
