Strolling along the beach, I glimpsed it half-buried in the sand: a barnacle-encrusted bottle

Strolling along the beach, I glimpsed it half-buried in the sand: a barnacle-encrusted bottle. I walked over to the bottle and inspected the outside of it. From where I had first glimpsed the bottle it looked like it was barnacle-encrusted but up close it has beautiful gems of different colors arranged around the bottle. I have seen lots of bottles before in the sand but never one so beautiful. I decided to take the bottle home and clean it up a bit so I could see its true beauty.

The ride home was longer than usual this time. The bottle was so enticing I was anxious to clean it and see what I might find inside of it. After the long ride I finally arrived home and hurriedly ran into the kitchen. I filled the sink with warm water and a splash of laundry detergent. The detergent was mild as to not ruin the bottle or the gems on the outside. I placed the bottle in the sink and allowed it to soak for a little while. Why I am so anxious about this bottle? It is almost like it is calling me to open it, waiting for it's contents to be released. I couldn't wait any longer, I had to open it and find out what was inside. Draining the water from the sink I inspected the cork in the top of the bottle, it was not so deep that I could pry it out with my hands. I sat down at the table and slowly pulled the cork from the bottle.

"Where am I? Excuse me, Sir?" I pushed myself up from the ground waiting for his response.

"Oh sorry, I did not hear what you asked." Said the strange little man in a green overcoat.

"Where am I?"

"Oh that's easy, your in the wonderful town of Cruet." He smiled at me.

"Where is Cruet? the last thing I remember was standing in my kitchen."

"Oh dear" he said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me back down to the ground. "It is not safe for you here, we have to hide you now."

"Wait, I don't understand what is going on. Why do I have to hide?"

"You opened the bottle right?"

"Well yes but what does this have to with where I am"

"Silly girl, Cruet is the town within the bottle. Whoever opens the bottle will be magically transported inside and one of the towns people will take their place in the outside world."

"What! Are you kidding me? How can I be in the bottle? How do I get out?" I asked frantically as tears began to form in the corner of my eyes.

"The only way out of the bottle is for someone to speak your name before opening the bottle again. Until that time you are stuck here in our kingdom."

"So why do I have to hide? Is there someone who could help me get out a different way?" I cried.

"No Ma'am, that is the only way you can get out. As for the hiding part, well lets just say, we may be a wonderful town but we have a tyrant for a ruler. He has been trying to perfect a way to get himself outside of the bottle as well. So those that have come inside the bottle are forced to be slaves to his testing and research."

"So......I am stuck here....for ever it seems. How do I hide then?" Wiping the tears from my eyes I looked at the town around me. be continued.
