Eternally Yours
Chapter 1
"You've invented a time machine?" Melody gasped over the phone as she talked with David, her computer smart, technically savvy friend.
"Well, it's not like what you've seen on the movies or television. It is really a virtual reality mechanism which enables the participant to travel through any given time period of their life," he explained with a smile.
"So, this virtual reality only works on taking me to my past experiences? What about the future?"
"Sorry, it only works in the past. I'm still working on future events, but that is a bit tricky."
Melody released a deep sigh. She always wondered what it would be like to travel through time. Now that the possibility existed through virtual reality, many questions popped into her head.
Was it safe? What would if feel like? Would she die? How could she get back to this time period? Was there a panic button?
Due to the fact that 'security' was extremely high on her priority list, she had to find out the truth.
"It is perfectly safe. Remember, it is not really happening. It will just appear to be. It works through your own brain waves, acting out the scenes. In other words; it is based solely on past memories, thoughts, and experiences," he replied as if he could read her thoughts simply from her hesitation.
"Can I change the past?"
"The truth is...I don't know. This is still in experimental stages."
"Maybe I better wait until you are sure, David. I am happy with my life and don't want to mess things up."
He chuckled. "I was only kidding. Remember, it is not a time machine, it is virtual reality. If you do something to change the past, it won't matter because it is not really happening."
Chapter 2
Melody couldn't believe he actually convinced her to do this. She was having second doubts and was afraid of the outcome.
"Relax. There is a panic button of sorts. If things get too scary, you can wake up and remove these goggles," he spoke gently, trying to convince her it was completely harmless.
She clasped her hand snuggly around the small control box with a red button in the center.
"Will I run into the other me there-the me from then?" Her mind was running faster than she could get the words out. Once she went "under" she didn't want to think of any questions she should have asked .
"This isn't time travel, remember?" David laughed again. "You are the only one who will be there, don't worry. Are you ready?"
She reached in her pocket and pulled out two wallet sized photos. One was of her and her husband, Tim on their wedding day. They would celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary in December this year.
"See you soon baby," she said bringing the picture to her lips and kissing the groom's smiling face.
She then looked lovingly at the second photo. It was her daughter, Stephanie with her long, red tinted golden locks of hair, like her dad, and her face resembling her mother's.
"I love you Steph," she whispered, blowing a kiss toward the photo.
"I'm ready," she said as she gently placed the pictures back into her pocket, and lifted the goggles into place.
"Okay, I will be monitoring your whereabouts, but I won't be able to hear or see what is happening. Remember, it is all in your mind," he said grinning.
"Sure," she said with a sarcastic smirk.
One more thing, he said removing the watch from his wrist. An alarm will go off when you are to move forward in time. He gives the watch to her and waits until she slips it into place on her left arm.
