A day spent with our grandson visiting his school on Grandparents Day. What did I see on Jesse's face when I asked him to pray? Was it fear? A fear that he was not allowed to believe in the God of our forefathers. A fear that was broken as we prayed together on Grandparent's Day.
As I reflect over a day that I spent with my oldest grandson, Jesse. I find myself deeply moved in prayer for our country, my dear country the United States of America. It was about 2 years ago, that my oldest grandson called us to invite us to his school for a luncheon on Grandparents Day. I was so excited. It is that as a grandparent that I find great joy in sharing time with our grandson Jesse. I graciously accepted his invitation to be at his school on Grandparents Day. My husband and I arrived at his school on time. There was Jesse, just waiting for us. He was so excited about our appearance in his school. I could see how proud, that he was that we his grandma and grandpa came to school. We toured his classroom and he proudly took us around and introduced us to his classmates. There was a lot of show and tell. It was finally time for lunch. I can remember standing in line for our lunch. On the floor by the door of the lunchroom was a line on the floor. I must have stepped over it, unaware of its presence. It was that then, Jesse said, Nannie you have to wait here behind the line for your turn for lunch. I went one step backward and waited my turn. My husband and I went to sit down with Jesse for a delightful lunch. It is that in my life that as a family that we have always shared a prayer in thankfulness in the Lord, for the food that we are about to eat. It was then that Grandpa and I said to Jesse, Lets pray and give thanks to the Lord. It was at that moment that I was totally shocked at the response that I saw on Jesses face and the words that he spoke. He looked around the room to see if anyone was looking, and then said, Nannie were not allowed to pray in school. You would have thought that you were having a meal in a country, where you would be persecuted for your beliefs. In boldness in the Lord, our grandson, Jesse, and we shared our prayer in the Lord. What has happened to our country? Our country was founded in God. A God that we trust in. I believe that God is calling out the believers to be bold in their faith. Do not be silenced in your love of God! I shall continue to lift up my prayers to the God of my forefathers. I pray for my country, the United States of America, may she hold tightly to her first love!In God We Trust.
