This is a children's story that I penned many years ago while teaching. Thought I'd put it out on AD and see what y'all think of it.

Once upon an Alaskan spring
When snow was fading away
I came across a trickster
That seemed always in the way.

I was walking in my kitchen
From the table to the sink
My hands full of dirty dishes
I didn't even stop to think.

The puddle on the floor appeared
Just as I was making a step
It was only then
When that Sunbeam showed itself.

"Hello! Sunbeam", I said with glee
"It's that time of year"
But it didn't take him long
To shy away out of there.

Another day I was driving
To the store for groceries
The road ahead a mile or two
Looked wet and slippery.

As I got closer it started to fade
Till suddenly it was gone
It was only then
When that Sunbeams face had shown.

"Hello! Sunbeam", I said annoyed
It's nice to see your face"
But it didn't take him long
To leave without a trace.

The third time that he came along
When out my window I stared
The mountains looked so big and white
As close as my back stairs.

"This can't be", I said to myself
"Those mountains are miles away."
It was only then when
That Sunbeam shined more rays.

"Hello! Sunbeam", I cried out loud
"What a tease you are
You come and brighten a space in time
Then slowly creep away.

You think that this is funny
Playing tricks on the likes of me
Knowing full well the more you shine
The more that this earth needs."

The Sunbeam totally ignored me
Or maybe he just didn't hear
Because he sneaked behind a cloud
And didn't reappear.

I was angry at the Sunbeam
For the teasing it had done
I wanted him to be sorry
For not staying out so long.

I layed down on the couch
With a book to forget my woes
When suddenly that Sunbeam
Across the pages it shown.

It gave me light for reading
And warmed me into a nap
And when I finally woke
My blanket I did unwrap.

Sunbeam was now in full glory
As I stretched out of my sleep
I thanked the Sunbeam for its stay
And for giving me such a treat.

I watched the Sunbeam carefully
As it slid down on the trees
But before he totally disappeared
I thought I saw him wink at me.

My younger sister would love this one -- I am going to pass this along to my parents because my sister is at the right age where she would appreciate this. She is at a specialized elementary school which specializes in writing. She is not quite ready for what I do, though I have this feeling she would fall into the family genre soon enough. This is a good poem, impressive is the word I am looking for here. Quite epic in its telling. I have to agree with everyone on here when I say you definately have a voice when it comes to writing -- and to write in an epic form, that is a craft in itself.

You do have a Voice, Carolyn. Please keep writing what it speaks, when it speaks. I think many of us need to hear it more often.

Lovely story in poetic form, and a bit of fun too, it kind of reminds me of the on-off visits of sunshine to our English shores. Winter-summer-winter-summer etc., all in one week! Jackie <> <

Hi, Bear! Delightful write! We all have heard tales about the "Man in the Moon" but few ever personify the sun, as you have done.

After reading 'bout your playful lil imp, my mind took a giant leap to the Aurora Borealis!!! Punched it into search, and Voila! I LEARNED something new!

Thought you might appreciate it also, here is the link:

I had read other info from US and Canadian sources, but this one is from Finland. Enjoy ! Tom.
