From Father to Son

Excerpt of my Father's writing...thinking about his first born son, my beloved brother, Jeff.

Excerpt of Writing-

          For Jeff—because you ask:

"It was the first fall day…”
          The new progenitor-another generation…lineage intact

We rented the apartment in Lincoln unseen—while still in Barstow-and on the day of separation from the Marines headed the Studebaker toward Nebraska. Mother was with 8 & ½ months pregnant-bursting out from her home-sewn smocks = a time when doctors flatly & firmly stated, “No traveling!”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
From youth to age > experiencing the event of living. We’re building a pyramid of expanding perceptions to be assimilated, stored & analyzed, until a solid base is nurtured with sustenance for higher planes. And thusly, you have the expanded spectrum of a moment Re-lived BEYOND the original.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Of the décor, mostly I remember the musky smelling-painted Marine green-taped but falling down wall paper. But the place of focus for all (it mortified the grandparents-to-be) was the space overlooking the stair shaft (straight down), that was to be “Jeffie’s’” room. We worked hard to make Jeff’s “room” nice>>>> One morning, about two weeks later, Mother told me it was time…
It was “the first fall day.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You are always my Child- moments remembered from conception…I am always your Father-moments remembered by you, and supportive to your special needs.
The link> pass it along…

May we be as bookends-one to the other-bonding between the expanding biographies of our individual but kindred lives, sharing understandings of THIS life. And when we submit to the “normal progression” of life’s stage, may we accept the inevitability of again and realize to….
When the Father carries the Child…
                      They’ll laugh-
When the Child carries the Father…
                           They’ll cry
 *******************************************************************************
 ***************************************
And when I die,
I shall wear the “Badge of Honor!”

I will wear it with my lamb’s skin apron:        it emblematic of re-birth in innocence - the other steadfast virtue...neither necessarily earned, but given by a Father and Son who CARED and BELIEVED I should have and hold them everlasting.

Seeking HIS truths, I shall depart this life with my wedding ring, my lamb’s skin, my Badge of Honor…and thence begin the final journey, to that “house eternal, not made with hands.”

I had to smile at the young couple travelling with their first baby almost due. How brave are our young selves.

You are so lucky to have your father's inner feelings written down for you to read. Thanks for reading my story.
