Thought I would give this short story writing a second chance here.

Two lovers pondering what this meeting would be about as there had come a time in the past that they knew this love had to be conditional and boundaries had to be set. Wondering if their lover’s hideaway would become one of building this new love with boundaries or it becomes the final resting place.

He waited like a little school boy at the airport security check point for his love to arrive. Sitting trying to read a newspaper while watching the clock and waiting for the PA system to announce her flight had arrived.  Hearing her flight had arrived he knew within minutes her eyes he would see and feel the first kiss from her lips he desired and needed now.  Looking up he saw those eyes like pure diamonds shining and he sprang to meet her. To start this weekend as they had so many times in the past a sweet hello, tender hug, and a special soft kiss he gave her.

Taking her luggage and hand they walked so happy to the car for the drive to their lover’s hideaway. Finding the car they stopped long enough to exchange soft passionate kisses before the long drive to the hideaway. The drive seemed as short to them as they viewed the trees fall colors and the beautiful sunset.  Conversation also about changes in their daily life as if they both new there was coming a time when it would change to their feelings and love for each other.

Arriving to find the harbor full of sailboats just waiting for the final fall trip and their cabin just sitting nestled in the oaks trees full of massive fall’s colors they now both begin to really think what will the next three days bring. Opening the door she enters as he brings the luggage in and unpacking they stop to embrace and just hold each other close not saying a word just letting their eyes tell each other how they both needed this time together.

Sunset was burning thru the French doors reflecting off her soft silky hair.  As they just held each other and let the feeling contained within them be passed to each other through lips that were being passionately kissed. Feelings that this was not just one of making love but one of talking and understanding were their love had come and were this would go together with totally understanding the boundaries.

Each day passed as they talked and came to grips what their love was and what it could be if they stayed within boundaries that were being set on this visit to their hideaway. One of trust, understanding, sharing, caring, while never stepping over a line that was understood by both and sealed within their hearts and souls with kisses that no man could break.

Three days of sharing, laughing, passionate love making, and few tears of the joy they shared but both knowing that time was coming that they would need to go separate ways. The time came to leave and make the drive back but they stood together, hugged, and kissed turn and looked back. The cabin was their perfect place and would share with no else and both knew that soon again they would return to share a lover’s hideaway place.

Fantastic story that could be turned into novel. I think you have what it takes to write stories. Keep doing it!

This was a sweet, loving story and you told it beautifully, John. You really should explore writing more short stories.

Although I think that dialogue should play an important part of most short stories, in some it just isn't needed. This is one such story. Your narrative was not dull or insipid, rather it gently pulled the reader along with the story in a benign, loving way. I neither became bored, (length had a little to do with that) or hurried with this very nicely-written love story.
