"RAMPAGE!"
Hi, all,
My first novel--titled RAMPAGE.
Rampage is a fictional story with a western style theme, for readers 13 and up. It is an adventurous story that will keep the reader in suspense, and will also take one on a journey through the eyes of the main characters…
RAMPAGE'S EXCERPT:
The elk were beginning to wander down along the narrow mountain pass, in search of food that the early morning frost had not yet covered. The Topp family, living in the mountain valley, didn't mind the elk, except when they had to chase the large animals out of their small corn patch. But what followed the elk down the trail, shadowing their every movement, did! It was late evening in the mountain valley, and Rocky had just put his golden stallion inside the barn for the night. After securing the double doors he began walking up the shadow-darkened path toward the cabin. Rocky could soon see the candles light flickering through the partially opened windows. He could also smell the wonderful aroma of the freshly baked pumpkin pies that his mother had made, sitting on the window sill.
The grayish sky was growing darker by the second, and the swirling wind had started to strengthen with all its eerie sounds, as if some mystical storm were descending upon the valley. Rocky started walking faster; but suddenly, as if struck by lightning, stopped dead in his tracks. He was temporarily frozen in place by the blood-curdling screams of some misfortunate animal in trouble, big trouble. The ghostly noises sent chills shooting clear through to Rocky's bones!
The horrifying sounds were coming from the woods--just across the barren-field behind the barn. Darkness had all but set in now, and the terrible screams were saturating the air. Rocky again quickened his pace and was soon standing on the first step leading up to the cabin's front porch. His father was already standing in the doorway of the cabin, sipping sparingly on a freshly brewed cup of coffee. He was also listening to the horrendous noises, and watching Mother Nature's oncoming storm.
"What do you think it is, Father?" asked Rocky, in a whispered-like voice.
“It sounds like a grizzly has an elk cornered, son.”
“I feel so sorry for the elk," replied Rocky. "It sounds as though it's being torn to shreds!” "Let's go inside," suggested his father, as he tossed the remaining drops of coffee out over the edge of the porch. "There's nothing we can do about it now…
