Entertaining Shoppers


Some things that shoppers do....
This is based on an actual occurrence.



 

Relaxing time is shopping with a good friend that shares the same adventures as you. There are many different things we all shop for. Some individuals need to replenish their wardrobe frequently while others shop for the unusual. Then of course there are those that shop just to shop. Some individuals feel the need to seek out the old and reproduced items of the past, or some hard to find collectable they had been collecting for many years. What is amazing is how the shopper portrays themselves when shopping.

You have the quiet shopper. They are alone, speak to no one, they get what they want and get out of the store. Then there is the wanderer, they can shop for several hours and not buy a thing. There are the conversationalists, they go out just to have a conversation with others, asking many questions about products takes time and skill. Occasionally you will find the entertaining shoppers and this is something you really wouldn’t want to miss.

Martha and Mary loved to venture into the antique shops in as many different cities as they could. Mary was always adding a piece or two to her collectable 100 year old rare silverware set or picking up something she was sure no one else had. Martha collected prints or reprints of Gibson Girls or of Victorian Era women to frame her self. Even though Martha and Mary were in their forties no one would have ever guessed their age as they laughed and giggled while they toured the antique mall.

Heading for the antique men’s jackets that were turned into woman’s apparel Martha tried on several before finding the perfect fit. Looking around she spotted the antique hats to match her black herring bone jacket. Now she needed a pair of silk gloves to complete the set…over there at the end of the hat row she found what she was looking for. It was as if the gloves were like magic. After putting the gloves on she began to pose in different jesters as if posing for a magazine. Then as if a trance Martha began to dance. Others that were in the near vicinity watched and laughed yet were interested in where Martha had picked up the jazzy coat and hat. As if she had worked in this antique store for years, Martha would give further information about the items that she wore such as how old they were, what they were made out of and if the price was right. Then she would direct them to the area of their needs.

Mary had been off in another area checking out the silverware table observing closely to see if she could find any matching pieces to her set. Suddenly she decided to get a few serving spoons and play a tune on nearby dishes. Martha heard the tune and in seconds arrived where Mary was and had joined in. Others gathered around and laughed at Martha and Mary as they played a catchy tune. Martha commented that they were just trying out the merchandise.

After their musical debut they both wandered over to where the prints, reprints and paintings were. Martha began to go through a pile of reprints that were 24 inches by 36 inches and of different collectables. Behold! There it was …her Gibson Girl print that she had been hunting for. A small squeal emerged from her. Mary quickly turned from the paintings she had been looking at to see why Martha was so excited.

Mary held the other side of the print from Martha and declared that it was indeed a great find and that she needed to buy it. Martha, usually an easy going woman and giving up on she might want but really didn’t need, politely said, "No. It’s mine!"

Mary started to giggle and said, "No, I need it!"

Laughing, Martha stated firmly, "Nope! It’s mine. I found it first."

The sales woman on the other side of the counter tried to smooth over the situation.

"Girls, there is probably another print of that particular girl or something similar."

Martha and Mary looked at each other and simultaneously said, "But we want this one!"

To distract Mary, Martha pointed to some very large framed oil painting that she knew Mary would love. Mary began walking towards the painting then stopped in her tracks and began to laugh loudly. "Well, you’re trying to distract me!"

Laughing hysterically now, Martha replied, "Yes, I want the print all to myself!"

Mary turned around and walked back to Martha and grabbed the print. Now there was a tug of war with neither loosing grip of the print and both laughing and giggling.

"Girls, girls!" repeated the sales person. "I am sure there has to be another print. Let me go through this pile and see."

Martha and Mary helped look as well but they continued to hold on to the first print tightly. Finally another identical print emerged from the pile. Mary stated that she wanted the first one, but Martha was quick, "Forget it girl! My hands touched this one first!"

Mary giggled again and let the first print go.

After four hours of entertaining and shopping the women bought the prints as well as the silverware, jacket, hat and gloves. On the way back to the car they continued to laugh and giggle hysterically about their adventure and wonderful time they had.

"Well the best buy of the day was the Gibson Girl print…$5.00! Now that’s a bargain!"
