One of the fourteen book signings I had in the last two months since Fatal Addiction arrived,I must tell you this story which touched me deeply.
It was a day when everyone that came by my book signing table either ran from me when they saw the cover and title, or it got their attention.
Many related to this book and stopped to share their life story about a family member who got off track or who knows, they were the family member addicted.
For fifteen minutes there was a little old lady(maybe 90) standing in the corner watching every move. Finally she got the courage to slip up fumbling with her Thrift shop coin purse to say,"Sir, I cannot buy your nice book, but may I make a donation?"
Yes m'am you certainly can.Thank you so much. As she tiptoed out the door.I couldn't wait to see her donation. It was in the bottom on below the bills.I reached down and removed an old dime.I knew there was a story in the Bible but it wouldn't come to me.
Finally my friend the Vet almost quoted verbatum the story of the Widow's Mite.Thank you Dr.Curtis Crawford for refreshing my memory.I had no idea when Fatal Addiction became available for me to share with avid and curious readers making their purchases what was in store for me as the author?
Consciously speaking..........I knew when my editor and I had gone over the manuscript close to fifty times that I had used some mild expletives, and stepped on a few toes.
But, what my editor kept saying is," It's on screen and in the papers every day.So quit worrying, everyone you know is aware that you are a Christian, a believer, and you mean no harm.
What you are doing is two-fold; (1) you are making folks aware of what is going on while they sleep (2) you are trying to help fight drug abuse, addiction and save lives.
So, I mean no harm when I tell it like it is 'cause I have seen what is happening for the past 30 years. And remember, this is not like Southern Winds where I lived and breathed every word, this is fiction, partially based on true happenings.
Please raise your hand and be counted for if you know no one that has been affected by drugs in any way, directly or indirectly. My oh my, I see no hands.
