"It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult." - Seneca

"Property may be destroyed and money may lose its purchasing power; but, character, health, knowledge and good judgement will always be in demand under all conditions." - Roger Babson

For over 225 years, the American Purple Heart is the oldest American military decoration in the world in present use. Awarded exclusively to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded in war and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.

According to the Military Order of the Purple Heart organization, approximately 600,000 recipients of this special medal live in the US.

The U.S. Postal Service issued the 41 cent Purple Heart stamp for public sale earlier this month. According to the Postmaster General, the stamp commemorates servicemembers' sense of duty, dedication to service, spirit of valor, and willingness to sacrifice. The 41-cent stamp is the third issue of the Purple Heart postage stamp, which honors the Purple Heart medal and those who wear it. Aug. 7, 2007 marked the 225th anniversary of the Purple Heart.

Please Honor the memory of many and support your military by purchasing these stamps.

Thank you, Myles, for always remembering the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. I will be buying the stamps, rest assured. :) ANYTHING to help our Veterans.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Thank you, Your writing is right on target and wonderfully honors those who have been awarded this medal. Because of your posting, today, I shall forego using my old 39-cent stamps, and will, today, purchase the new Purple Heart Stamps.

A wonderful suggestion, and an award truly deserving everyone's respect and admiration.

And I love that Seneca quote.
