The inspiration for this story came one night as I listened to my friends daughter do all she could to delay her bed time.

I wrote the basic story in about 2 hrs.

Every night just about 8 o'clock or so.
just after a nice warm bath
that came just after she brushed her teeth
which she did just after she helped clean the dinner table
which by the way was just after dinner

Teenybeans would put on her favorite pajamas
(the ones with the glow-in-the-dark stars)
just before she would crawl into her very soft bed
something she did just before she fluffed her pillows
which she always did just before she would find her fluffy stuffed puppy named Bodie.
right before she would snuggle down and listen to the story that her mother, or her father or sometimes both would read to her just before she went to sleep.

Tonight she did not want to go to bed.
So she tried all she could to be slow about everything
she took her time clearing the table
she fussed about not liking the toothpaste so her mom would get the new tube from the closet,
she knew,
that would take a few minutes.

she didn't wash behind her ears
she cried and yelled "no no please don't wash my hair"
she knew fussing would take up time..... and it did.

she fussed about her pajamas (she didn't like these new ones. they didn't have any glow-in the dark stars)
her mother said "my aren't we fussy tonight"
"if you keep up this fussing there'll be no story tonight. I'm warning you Teenybeans, you'll fuss up story time!!"

but Teenybeans kept fussing.

she fussed because her bed wasn't just right
she fussed because her pillow didn't fluff how she liked.

she even pretended that she couldn't find Bodie.

Her eyes felt heavy and she got all
snuggled in, she yawned really big.... and said to her mommy, "I'm getting sleepy can you read me my story"

To her suprise her mommy said "There's no story tonight "
It's time to sleep now,
"you fussed up your story time...."I love you, goodnight"

This made her cry ..........and cry..........and cry..........Till finally her day came to tell her good-night.

her dad hugged her and said "theres no reason to cry, your fussing is why there's no story tonight. Mommy told you all the fussing would use up your time. then he kissed her goodnight,. as he turned out the light, she heard daddy say " You should always listen to mommy". I love you....goodnight.

Teenybeans felt lost,
what was she to do?
she ALWAYS had a story.
with no story what would she dream about?
how could she sleep with nothing to dream about?
she stared out her window and hugged bodie tight.
afraid she'd not fall to sleep at all that night.

her eyes soon drooped, and got heavy, she was falling asleep, before she noticed she had started to dream.

she thought she saw something just under the moon .....a shiny white planet with spots like the firemans dog... it had rings like saturn but these were shaped like triangles, 3 of them, one electric blue, one hot pink, and the last one the brightest green she ever did see. she was amazed by this sight, and intrigued by its gleem.

she saw some stairs and decided to climb them....
she went up.... and up....... and up......climbing higher and higher
the planet got closer and closer until......
she reached the green triangle and then ......

out of nowhere a space taxi pulled along side her
the door opened so quickly it really suprised her
out of the door came a long arm with a hand.....
it had a purple glove with orange swirls and
it reached out and grabbed her.
the taxi sped off at the speed of light.....and then screeched to a halt in a blink of an eye.

the arm with the glove scooped her up in its fingers sat her down in a chair...
and chimed "your now in the kingdom"
and then it took off

in front of her was a chair very different from hers
it was large and tall and it looked like a throne
it had spots like the planet,
three triangles hung over it and lit up so bright
to the person who sat there , it would be a spotlight.

she looked around the rest of the room just for a second,
then looked back, to her amazement
there in the chair sat a very odd man
he wore a bright orange tye-dye t-shirt, and baggy tan pants with pins and bowling balls printed all over them. he wore little square glasses, that slid down his nose, he had fluffy brown hair, cut short in the front and long in the back , he had scruffy mustache, and hair on his chin....that looked kinda made teenybeans grin. On his head sat a gold plastic crown tipped just to the left, and the three triangles on the throne, blinked and lit up his head.

he cleared out his throat before he spoke.
who are you? he said in his best kingly voice.
Teenybeans, said in a squeeky high pitch , as she trembled..... my name is teenybeans, your magesty sir.

this made the king laugh hard from his belly, which shook as he laughed (thats right ..just like jelly)
Who named you so perfectly said the king while he laughed?
it's only a nick name it came from my dad!!!
my real name is theona jean bean
its a pleaseure to meet you she said to the king.

She looked strait at the king
and in her best big girl voice
ask where am I ? and who are you?
very politely of course

my sweet little bean said the king
you are on dorkus,
where all creatures are dorks
and I am they're king
dilbert dorkus of course .

please king dorkus can you tell me please sir,
why am I here on your planet tonight.

The king tilted his head to the right and said..... with a little gleem in his eye,
I dont know why your here.
my dear Teenybeans, I was going to ask you the very same thing.

tears welled up in teenybeans eyes, then she broke down and she started to cry

the king's heart melted at teenybeans tears , he patted his lap, my small bean, come sit right here.
tell me why do you cry?

so she told him her story..... how she fussed just because
how she had had no story and how it made her feel lost that she nothing to dream
and that when she looked out her window she saw a bright green, how she climbed and climbed all the stairs to find the green triangle, and the lightning fast taxi with the hand and the glove had scooped here up and then sat her down here, then took off like a shot. and now she felt lost

you can never be lost here chimmed out the king. every ones friendly and can show you you the way.
there are only a few rules that all must obey.......
they are......
if you can talk you can sing

everyone can dance no matter how silly

treat others nice, and they'll be nice too.
"on dorkus, we say..... be nice to each other every day"

we all work together so the work will get done
( if you work hard and steady your sure to be spoiled)

but the number one rule, that everyone knows "always listen to mother and do what your told"

oh that's it king dorkus I know why I'm here!!!!!
I fussed and I didnt listen to mother
I didnt do as she asked and I missed my story
I came here tonight to learn this from you
she hugged him real tight..... and said oh sir, thank you.

King dorkus said teenybeans ....

I must tell mother I'm sorry I need to go home.
You dont want to stay? the king said with surprise.
I promiss you teenybeans we'll have a good time.
I'm sorry king dorkus it seems wonderful here and
I'd love to see more, but I will miss my mommy, daddy and bodie, galore.

I'd love to come back and visit some day, but right now I need to go home and tell mommy I'm sorry, cause on dorkus I learned I should listen to mommy.

The king smiled a big smile, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a locket.
It looked like the planet just under the moon, when he opened it up and it sang, {oh so out of tune }

"whenever i want whenever i need return me to Dorkus to speak with the king"

This locket will help you visit again, King Dorkus said with a grin, set it down on the table, and i will show you my friend.

Point your finger to the sky, then tapp tapp, on the locket, wiggle your finger not once but twice towards the sky, sing with the locket and you'll jet through the sky.

Come and visit us soon my small bean.
You are welcome on Dorkus any old time.

Let me show you once more for this is how you get home, he pointed his finger, tapp tapp and wiggle wiggle, twice to the sky, he sang very loudly, "Whenever i want whenever i need return me back home to my family"

She gave the king a hug and kissed his red cheek and promised to visit at least once a week.

She sat down the locket reached her finger to the sky, tapp tapped , wiggle wiggled and sang way up high. "Whenever i want whenever i need return me back home to my family"

In a blink of an eye, she was back in her room. She sprang out of bed, ran fast down the hall and hugged her mom tight, kissed her warm cheek, and told her all about her night.

I went to a planet so shinny and bright, where i met a king named Dorkus, he reminded me of something I already knew.

On his planet its the number one rule." Always listen to your mother and do as she says" so i rushed back home, as fast as I could.... to tell you i'm sorry, for being so fussy and causing you worry. Her mother just smiled and hugged her tight.

Thank you she said.....
What a long journey, that was one grand dream.
I'm so proud that you learned something too Teenybeans....

It was only a dream? teenybeans said to her self.
Her eyes filled with tears and
only she knew,
how sad she now felt as she went off to her room. she hugged her dog Bodie, and she wanted to cry,.......
but there on her pillow.....
right in plain sight ........
was the locket that king Dorkus gave her last night.
