A story about life and its ups and downs in the life of a tree.

Within the enchanted forest their lived a tree. He was tall, thick, with large long roots, and was loved by all the creatures of the forest. They called him Tree and he had two best friends named Squirrel and Bird.

Tree’s long bushy limbs and roots offered Squirrel and Bird shade on many sunny days, but today was different. Sometime ago Bird spoke of faraway places and Squirrel was fascinated and asked if he could be brought along to see those places one day. Today was that day.

This saddened Tree because he could not. Like other plants and rocks, Tree was destined to live a life of complete solitude. He learned early on that friends would come and go and that the important part was never to forget them.

Bird and Squirrel were special friends though, better than Tree had ever imagined; this was because Bird and Squirrel lived in Tree and they had all become quite close through the seasons. Bird learned to fly from Tree’s limbs and Squirrel’s parents used to keep their Spring nuts and grains in one of Tree’s lower chasms.

“Woooohh, woooohh, woooohhhh…!” and out of nowhere appeared Wind with news of a coming storm. “Beware all who run freely, my family and friends are approaching, and I have come to warn you. Tree, please gather your friends and set your roots in the ground tight.”

“Oh my, I hope Bird and Squirrel make it back before they get here. In the mean time I will prepare myself.”

Suddenly water began spewing from Earth and Sky. Wind carried with her all that she could, moving tirelessly through the forest.

There was no sign of Bird or Squirrel, but Tree stood strong and held it together as Rain beat against its outer surface. This pounding would make Tree wonder if his friends could handle this kind of encounter with Rain.

Within moments, small streams and puddles filled the forest. Rain hits the ground water causing it to splash up and get carried away by Wind.

Amidst all the chaos Tree made some new friends. The water had risen so high and Tree was able to play host to a school of fish for lunch.

They spoke of life in the water and Tree told them about life on the land. Tree had found new friends with new stories to tell. This was a great time for all.

When the Rain stopped the water receded and Tree said his goodbyes to his new friends, “I won’t forget you and I will see you next time.”
“Thanks for the meal Tree.”, exclaimed the fish just before swimming back into the deep waters.

The Sun is leaving and the ground is wet. Wind has exhausted herself and is now just a cool breeze welcoming in the night. “Well old friends I hope you are well. I wish you could’ve been here to meet my new friends from the water, they’re really nice. For some reason or another I am no longer worried about you. In my mind we are playing as we always did and we will continue to do so forever. I’ll see you around!”
