"It's like reliving the horrors of September 11, 2001, all over again, excepting on a much smaller scale..."

Sage McDermott of Colorado is feeling a sense of anger and helplessness, as are a lot of Americans, in light of the tragedy in Texas at Fort Hood Army Base, where a gunman killed 13 people and injured over 30.

It's like reliving the horrors of September 11, 2001 all over again, excepting on a smaller scale; however, its impact is no less devastating.

Yesterday afternoon, at around 1:30 p.m., C.S.T, Texas Time, a man who worked at the Army base at Fort Hood, near Temple, Texas, started shooting at random.  As a result of his rampage, 13 people were killed in cold blood and over 30 were injured, before the man was brought down himself when a female officer shot him, thus, preventing his escape.

Now 13 families won't get to celebrate the holidays together because of this event.  My heart absolutely breaks for them; I can't even begin to imagine what might be going through their minds right now.

The man who did this was reported to be a doctor who practiced the Islamic faith.  People are still trying to understand or wonder what caused this man to snap like he did.  He was due to be deployed himself, and maybe this was set him over the edge; questions are being asked, and people are demanding/seeking answers as to why this happened in the first place.

As you can imagine, I feel a sense of anger and bitterness.  Why wasn't anything done to prevent this from happening?  You expect it on foreign shores:  you don't expect it here, not in the United States of America!  It's like reliving September 11, 2001, or Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, all over again!!

I think the country seriously needs to review its national security system, or at least shut the borders, so people can't leave or come in until this is solved.  I somehow doubt this will be forgotten for a very long time to come.  I also think that the country needs to send the 12 million plus illegal immigrants back to their original country of origin and don't let them come back.  EVER.

People might hate me for saying that, but we're only asking for trouble by letting people in who aren't documented citizens or visitors!

You don't know what they are capable of doing, or if they are people bent on destroying our nation!  The main majority of these people might not be, but you may never know; there could be some who are.

I don't know what to say or think; this topic is on everyone's lips, and frankly,  I'm getting sick and tired of it all already!  When is this madness ever going to end?  When are people going to stand up for their own and say:  "ENOUGH!!"??

When are those who do these types of things going to be punished, and when are the victims or their families going to get the justice they so rightfully deserve??

I can't write any more; I'm too angry/upset right now.  I know it is required of me as a Christian to pray for people who do bad things, but right now I can't.  I.  Just.  Can't.

~Love, your friend, Sage in Colorado.  :(  *tears!*

Dear Karen,

Very well written and a nasty remindere of 911 and the reality that this will happen again and again--it's not of "if" but "when". We all need to be prepared, to take note of strange happenings around us and most of all, to remember that the enemy is within our country, as neighbors and sometimes even friends. Well done. What you wrote needs to be said again and again.

I kind of feel like Sage: too angry to pray for the man that did this. Why?!? He had no compassion on those he shot, killed and injured; why should we have any on him?!?? An excellent, heartbreaking write, Karen, very well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
