I swear Pastor Timbo was thinking of me when he preached yesterday ...
He was talking about "being a blessing to others". In short, do something worthwhile for somebody else instead of worrying about yourself.
Maybe it's all in good, but what Pastor Timbo fails to remember is this: I have my own issues. I lost my job back in July, and have been eking out a near nonexistant living; two people living on one paycheck (my wife's). It isn't easy to pay the bills when the money isn't coming in as it used to. And grocery, gas, and other necessities have gotten way out of hand; the prices are outrageous!
He was talking about reaching out to someone who needs to hear the gospel, in addition to providing them a gift card for a free turkey meal for Thanksgiving. Maybe Pastor Timbo means well, but what about my needs? What about the needs of my wife and the kids?? We're not exactly rolling in dough, you know, especially since the wife is now the sole breadwinner of the family!
I have also been looking for work, but to no avail. Nobody's hiring because I am either too old or "overqualified"; they want someone who has less experience or someone who is younger (say, younger than the age of forty). Or they will hire the services of someone who is not a legal citizen because they can work for less pay and are willing to do the jobs that most Americans, as a whole, won't touch.
It's extremely frustrating. Then Pastor Timbo (or just about anybody else) wonders why I have such an attitude problem about God, or about life in general. It's like God has put His Heavenly Phone on hold and doesn't even want to bother to return my call.
With the holidays coming up, the last thing I want to think about is someone else. How about someone helping me?? It's just not fair!!
*To be continued.*
