This is a fairy story set in the Somerset Levels in England's West Country. It was written to celebate the birth of our first grandson whose mother Claudine is featured in the story. The illustration of Zog, the hero of the story, is by our eldest daughter Michelle's partner, John Libert.
Our cottage was on the levels. It was flat land that stretched to the sea. Sometimes the sea created a sea fog that rolled in over the levels and made our cottage look as if it was surrounded by sea.
The cottage was called Eastview. The view to the east was mostly of the apple orchard and the golden stone tower of our village church of St Mary's.
I was born a long way from here where the sun shone 24 hours in summer and did not come out at all in winter. I was born when the sun shone.
We came to Westonzoyland when I was three. I had never seen a cow before. When I saw my first cow I was scared. I ran to my mother who told me not to be frightened. Cows gave people milk and was good for you. So that was all right.
