Every person in the world has a purpose for being here—a calling. The work of your life is to discover that purpose and get on with the business of living it out. --- Oprah Winfrey from Oprah.com
Here is proof that science and religion can co-exist in a meaningful way. This is the story of someone who ran away from the very truth he sought to find, and by reconciling two sides of the same coin, came away a happier person.
Denial was standard for me, but after years of getting whacked with a cosmic 2 x 4, I woke up and embraced a renewed purpose for my life.
At the risk of ridicule, I will tell you about myself, and my life's recurring theme. One night in the early 1990's, while driving alone through Rex, Georgia, I asked the Lord to tell me his will for my life. He had been after me for years telling me to, "preach my word, preach my word, preach my word." Like Jonah, I ran from the Lord. That is because I burned to do science. I thought he wanted me in a church behind the pulpit, and that I would have to give up my dreams. As it turns out, there are many ways to reach people. Science is one of them.
I prayed, "Lord I am tired of running from you. If you want me to preach your word, then I will preach your word. Whatever it is you want me to do, just tell me and I 'll do it."
The next thing I knew I was standing in front of Jesus Christ in living color. I knew him instantly. He was dressed in a white robe and seated on a white throne, with a fine gold crown upon his head. He had an air of royalty. His likeness was much like some of the old masters had painted, only he was a little thinner. He was laughing and bending over slapping his knee, saying, "Finally, finally! "
He sat up and looked at me. Oh those eyes! They were like a fire that seemed to cut right through me. But they were comforting and I was amazed but not afraid. He said, "Yes, I want you to preach my word, but let me tell you what I really want you to do. I want you to be a great scientist, and I want you to write that book that is in you."
I said, "But Lord, that is what I always wanted to do anyway."
He said,"I know. Who do you think put those things into you to begin with?"
I was totally humbled and in awe, unable to speak. The next thing I knew, I was back in the car again, going down the road right where I left off before. I was astounded and "my joy runneth over," and I gave praise to God. Like Paul, I have a thorn in the flesh to keep me humble, as I too would be exalted beyond measure, due to the great things the Lord has shown me. Later, I realized a second miracle had occurred, as I wondered who had been driving the car, while I was with the Lord!
Life makes more sense now. "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." Psalms 19:1

Religion and science go hand-in-hand in our lives because religion gives us the confidence to believe in ourselves, and science leaves us pondering and ignites our thirst for the unknown and its meaning. Both are enriching our lives.

You sought, so you found...most people go about their daily life without deep thought..too wrapped up in their living to look deep within. Others have a quiet faith and calm about them...each of us is different.
I'm glad you found your inner truth in that enlightening moment and you do write so very well..it is a joy to read your postings.

Rockie,
I believe in a Creator who endowed us with all the human flaws together with the capacity for Love and Compassion. For those who share this belief, it will be pointless to live thinking that there is no purpose for our being born. Count your blessings Rock and many thanks for this illuminating post.
Sincerely,
Regino |

Life is good when you are living the life you were always meant to live. My life is good now that I know what it is I was meant to do. I understand why you have so many reviews. You are a story-teller. We all love stories. Your heart is full and your creativity shows in your writing.
I'm impressed by your reviews which is why I decided to add a story to my posts. It will be continued from time to time. Didn't want to post too much at one time.
Thanks for your encouragement. Have a great day! Congrats on your numbers. I'm going to try and review a little each day. Joyce |

My son, dont be afraid to be ridiculed for your attempt to explain everything and every thing. It is a well known step of personal development which is well described in psychology.
You desperately need to acquire phylosophy, that is not going to help you to explain the universe, but will help you to find YOUR place in the universe.
