To commemorate the passing away of my dear mother a few days ago. I will greatly miss her, till we meet again in glory!

Momma always loved to cook and especially for the holidays. She loved making lots of delicious food and having family and friends over to share it. The more the better. It gave her great joy. She was a wizard in the kitchen.

She got ill this past year with cancer, but managed to cook  me a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner the other day, even though she had gotten nearly wheel chair bound and that she got so tired that she had to stop periodically and rest. I told momma how delicious the meal was, and she beamed and said she was so glad. She had, I noticed despite her weakened state, a twinkle in her eye  that I hadn't seen for awhile.

Her visiting nurse Mary, who came by periodically to help momma bathe and things, told me on the phone today that momma said, although unknown to me till now, that she was, "...Determined to cook Rockie a Thanksgiving Dinner, come hell or high-water! So I am hanging on till then, knowing that if I go to the doctor or the hospital before then, that I won't be coming back." Momma cooked that great dinner for me. That was the best turkey dinner  with all of the trimmings I ever had. Yesterday, Momma died.

One more thing that happened today that I had to share with you, dear hearted friends. I have been alternately grieving and joyful, as well as invincible and triumphant all the day long, knowing in my mind that momma was in heaven. Long ago, I saw her run down the isle at church during the altar call. She basically had to fight her way out from the middle of the pew, to get down the front of the church and to kneel in prayer, repent and give her life to Jesus. Then she came back with streaming tears of joy. It was  wonderful transformation for her life from that day forward. She was a new creation.

Today, I had a little doubt, not feeling absolutely sure about her salvation, though I was there and saw her life undergo a wonderful change for the better. The key to it all  is the fruit of your life, whether good or bad, that proves the change.
So earlier to allay the doubt that the Devil placed on me, as he likes to steal our joy, I prayed to the Lord to help me with this question, to know that momma was with him.
Tonight, I had the memory of the distinct smell of cloves. This reminded me of some candy momma had in the house years ago for Christmas.
Is that what they call sense memory, the smell in my mind? But why? What had triggered it?
I sought answers online to the meaning of this memory but found none.
So, I sat back down and I told my friend  Bridget about the curious thing that has happened.
In flash I got it...Cloves led me to think of momma's Christmas candy.
What is Momma's candy, but something sweet?
I asked Bridget, "Now then what does Christmas have to do with? "
"Jesus," she said.
So put the those things together and what do you have?
Sweet Jesus!
Momma is with Jesus!
Life is good again. Praise the Lord, life is good again!
Merry Christmas to you all!

Rockie, what a wonderful, warm and loving tribute to your mom you wrote here. I, too, am sorry for your loss... Spiritually, she will be with you forever and you may hear what she might say from time to time...the fragrance of cloves! definitely a Christmas fragrance...we used to spike oranges with cloves and add cloved to hot wine at Christmastime.

Thanks for sharing this...

Hi Rockie:

I understand where you're coming from when you said of the distinct smell of cloves that reminds you of your momma. I have lost my mother on December 16, 2006. and am still missing her to this date. Everyone carries a certain odor with them and you know it's the person even without seeing them. My mother always had a pleasant odor with her, and I swear to God, sometimes I can feel her presence when I can smell that familiar odor.

One time I was in my room visiting my brother keeping him company, and during the night I was awake by my mom's odor and I knew she was there to see me to let me know she was there.

Another time was when my sister and her family came from England to see us, and during the time we were all sitting around chatting I could smell the same familiar odor again. It was like a fragrance that only my mother would have carried with her that only belongs to her and we will know her presence whenever we smell that.

Your mother is in heaven watching over you, and she's very proud and appreciative of you for this wonderful tribute.

A wonderfully-written tribute indeed!! Thanks so much for sharing with us!!

Starman - I love that name - You just may be a star in Heaven one day. And there you will meet your mom. The two of you figgured it out. She was sending you a message that she was in The City Of Love.
Of Course, she is in Jesus' Arms where we all hope to be one day. He is the great lover and He is good and compassionate to forgive our sins if we just believe and repent of past sins. It's as simple as that. We need Faith and Hope now Love we take with us and on that we will be judged for God is Love. Be a flower in the Garden of Love

This is a beautiful story of a beautiful person, your Moomma. Not only did you love her but she also loved you with all her heart. You'll be thinking of her especially at Thanksgiving, with such a wonderful memory and such a strong link between you.
It is precious too, how Jesus assured you of her salvation.
When my Mom died, because she had been so unhappy, and seemed to live only for her children, I kept wondering if she could be happy without us. After about 3 months, our dear Lord consoled me by giving me a poem, "Does Mother Miss Me?" It helped me a lot.
Your journey of grieving is barely begun, and God will be there for you every minute to see you through. Then someday!---sweet reunion!
Blessings and a prayer,

Oh Rockie, you bring me to my knees with this heartfelt piece. I am so sorry for the passing of your mother and through your words, just how much she meant to you. An empty seat at the table, as a reminder of all the warmth and love shared. Robert and I both extend our love to you and your family and in our prayers you will remain.....

Be always safe,

Dear Rockie,

I am so sorry for your loss... Isn't it wonderful that we still have memories of our loved ones, to fall back on when we are grieving. I know that I am grateful for the little insights and feelings and impressions I have received of my own mother's on-going love and guidance for me since her death two plus years ago. The Lord is merciful to us...isn't it wonderful?
