ANGEL IN DISGUISE
By Myrtle Poor (c)
Several years ago I was working the graveyard shift at a Seven Eleven store in town. It was Saturday night and Saturday night was always very busy. I was the only clerk working so I was there by myself.
There were three brothers in town that had a bad reputation for being the town bullies. Everyone was afraid of them, especially the oldest one of the group. He was loud and obnoxious anywhere you saw him. The management had had trouble with them before.
There were two doors in that store. The front door was in the west and the side door was in the north. One of the rules of the store was not to sell liquor of any kind if the person trying to buy it was already drinking.
About 3:00 am the three brothers came in the front door and they were pretty much drunk. They didn't say anything, but walked to the back of the store and each of them picked up two six packs of beer. They brought the beer back to the counter and set it down to pay for it. They still didn't say anything.
Then I said to them, "Boys you know the rules of the store. I can't sell you the beer for you are drinking already."
Charlie the oldest said. "Yes you can. There isn't anyone here, but us and nobody will ever know it.
"I will," I said, "and I just can't do it."
I suddenly remembered the same three men had beaten up another person a few nights before and I was petrified. I cried out to God for help and protection.
At this time there was a man that entered the store from the north door. He was clothed in khaki pants and a white shirt. He was a clean cut person with a neat hair cut and his hair was fiery red.
He walked up behind the men, but they didn't know he was there. Then Charlie reached across the counter and grabbed me by the shirt collar and told me I would sell him the beer or he would beat me badly.
The man that had just come in punched Charlie on the shoulder gently and turned him around.
He pointed his finger at Charlie and said, "I rebuke you Satan in the name of Jesus," and Charlie's fist froze in mid air.
This man was an angel in disguise. I will always believe that. In a kind, gentle voice he told Charlie if he bothered me again he would be sorry. Then he told him and his brothers to apologize to me.
They all mumbled, "I am sorry," left the beer on the counter and walked out.
The look on those three men I will never forget. It was total awe and frustration.
I said to the man, "Are you new around here? I don't believe I have ever seen you in the store before. Where are you from?"
He said, "I am from all over."
Then He said to me, "You are a Christian and you should not be working in this store where they sell liquor. Find somewhere else to work."
At that precise moment the phone rang and for one second I turned my back to pick up the phone. When I turned back around he had just disappeared. I could see both doors through the surveillance mirror and he did not go out either of those doors.
So where did he go and who was he? I have never seen him since.
He was my Angel In Disguise. Sent there by God, my loving Father, to protect me at the precise moment when I cried out for help. If he had not shown up I would have been badly beaten and maybe killed.
Hebrews 13:2 (Read all of Hebrews 13)
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
If you read this I hope you are blessed by it for it is a true story.
