Usually when I am on a flight, I prefer to sit quietly and rest as much as possible. Usually I will have a book to read, and sit on an aisle seat. Often someone will say something to me, and I'll be polite, but not necessarily encourage conversation. This particular flight was especially long, and I had to change planes as well, plus it would be almost midnight before I reached my destination airport...then of course, the baggage and ride home.
On the first leg of the flight, in the middle seat sat a nice man who asked me about the book I was reading by John Grisham, "The Innocent Man". I mentioned that it is the first book that Grisham has written that is a true crime story, as his books are fiction. He mentioned that his two children are lovers of reading, and that one of his children hopes to be a journalist/writer. Naturally, I mentioned that I am a writer, and we got into the topic of my book, "Extraordinary Visits" - Miracles through Divine Intervention, and he expressed a keen interest in this subject. Soon he was sharing several stories that would certainly fall into the spiritually uplifting category. He asked for my business card, and we exchanged cards, as he expressed a desire to submit a couple stories for my upcoming book, the follow up to Extraordinary Visits.
After the flight change, once again I was sitting in an aisle seat, and was fortunate enough not to have anyone sitting next to me. Across the aisle sat an attractive young man, who appeared to be a business man, perhaps in his mid-forties, who was also lucky enough not to have anyone sitting in his row.
The flight was going to be a little over four hours, and so I had purchased a salad and cold drink, and once again took out my Grisham book. About midway through the flight, people were getting antsy and were getting up and down, stretching their legs, and in general visiting with each other. Two young men stopped to speak with the young man sitting across from me, and they began to discuss their high school and college days. Somehow, I was asked a question about sports: I think because I was sitting so close to their conversation, and soon I was a part of their chat.
Once the two young visitors had gone back to their seats, the man across from me continued to ask me other questions, and our conversation ventured toward my book about Divine Intervention. He was very interested in this subject and began to speak to me animatedly, discussing his childhood faith, and I found him to be quite charming. He shared with me that he has five beautiful children and that he is madly in love with his wife...and has opportunity to go astray, but that his love for family and respect of the union of marriage is very important to him, so it was not difficult for him to maintain a good, solid marriage.
I had a better chance to look at him, and I realized that he is very handsome, well dressed, articulate, and obviously successful. The more we spoke, he shared several personal stories with me, and I did the same....concerning divine intervention and how I came to write about this particular topic. He and I had many similar situations altho I am old enough to be his mother, (my youngest is 36). At one point he shared and then he said to me.... "I can tell you right now, that you have made a wonderful impression on me, and you have made me feel so blessed....validating some questions that I have had recently about my personal faith."
It is a small world, and we never know who we will meet on any given day. I have always believed strongly that there are no "accidents"...that we are sent into the lives of others for a reason...and vice-versa. This young man gave me a couple of stories for my future work, and I hope that I touched him in a positive way as he said. He smiled the whole time we spoke, and he told me that he is a private person who doesn't get personal with strangers, yet we were speaking as if we had known each other our entire lives. It was a beautiful experience for me, and he touched my life in an extremely positive way as well.
Some days life seems quite burdensome; and this day was one of those. The month had been filled with many downs, although there had been some highs as well, and I was not feeling well in the physical sense either. Yet....the first flight connected me with a strange young man who immediately shared touching events from his personal life. Less than two hours later, a second young man, shared much more than miraculous events from his own life.....he gave me hope and renewed my spirit.
In fact, he said to me....I don't know why I am saying this to you....but..God wants me to tell you...."Everything is going to be just fine....everything is going to work out well." I asked him "what do you mean, do I look as if something is wrong?" He looked at me and said, "I'm sorry...I had no reason to say that to you...it was just as if I heard God say this to me, and he wanted me to tell you, so I did."
My new found friend said he would check out my website, and that he wanted to order a signed book. He said he would send me a personal email, and I asked him to be sure to remind me that he had met me on the flight to Phoenix.
Miracles happen in small ways, and this encounter, my second one for the day....was truly Gods way of sending me His word through a messenger who had no idea of the emotional pain that I have been under for several weeks.
We parted ways at the airport, and I realized that this could have been a quiet, uneventful day on two flights...instead I had met two angels in the sky....
